Another #BeatTheBacklog #BookReview for @writeangie #SilentScream – #Book 1 in the #DIKimStone series

MY RATING – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Even the darkest secrets can stay buried forever…

Five figures gather round a shallow grave. They had all taken turns to dig. An adult sized hole would have taken longer. An innocent life had been taken but the pact had been made. Their secrets would be buried, bound and blood…

Years later, a headmistress is found brutally strangled, the first in a spate of gruesome murders which shock the Black Country.

But when human remains are discovered at a former children’s home, disturbing secrets are also unearthed. D.I Kim Stone fast realises she’s on the hunt for a twisted individual who’s killing spree spans decades.

As the body count rises, Kim needs to stop the murderer before they strike again. But to catch the killer, can Kim confront the demons of her own past before it’s too late?

I know, I know I am so behind the times only just starting this series. Thank god for the #BeatTheBacklog prompt.

This is one hell of a story, although for me it focused more on the characters than the story itself – however I loved that fact. Knowing this is a large series I feel connected to each of the main team. Especially Kim and Bryant.

I liked Kim from the offset, very likeable and funny with her bluntness and her NEED to do what was right and not stop until she had uncovered all the answers. I especially loved that although her character is a private person with many boxes buried deep and locked away from her past, we got the insight into what happened to her and what makes her tick.

Bryant – stole the show for me. I loved the friendship between him and Kim and I thought for an older guy he was pretty hilarious and helped to ground Kim into not making a complete tit of herself or getting into too much trouble. BUT I love that he always has her back regardless of the consequences.

I can tell this is going to be a budding friendship o am going to grow very found of and am just going to love them the more and more that I read.

This was an excellent read that kept me intrigued throughout. And I can’t wait to see what Kim uncovers next.
